Annual Report



            Central Library caters to the needs of the students and staff in different branches of PBR Visvodaya Institute of Technology and Science. Besides holding on excellent print collection of over 40581 of books, it also provides access to over 100 journals in sciences, engineering, technology, humanities and managements.

                        The Library is administered by the Librarian with the assistance of two Assistant Librarians, two Library Assistants and one Attendant

          The following is the statement of progress made in the library during the year i.e. from the 01-07-2014 to 30-06-2015.

 Working hours of the Library:

                        The Library is kept open from 8.30 a.m. to 6 p.m. in general and on Fridays from 8.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. except Public Holidays.


            The circulation counter issues books and returns them against the reader’s tickets issued to the users. The counter is kept from 9.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. The counter helps the users in knowing whether a particular book is loaned out if not traced on the stack.

During the year 36,167 students and 1,874 staff visited the library. Apart from that 1931 users utilized digital library.

During the year 39,794 books (including CD’s) were issued to the students

and staff on various subjects (Issues: 19,581 and Reruns: 20,213).

d) Dues collection:

A total amount of Rs.79, 510 was collected towards over due charges, loss of tickets and loss of books.


a) Collection Development and Management

Collection building is one of the important functions of the library that supports academic work of the students and faculty. Library collection comprising of books, journals and other reading materials.

During the year the Library has acquired 196 books at a cost of Rs. 46,877/-. Apart from that library has received 46 donated books. The library spent Rs. 10,277/- for Newspapers.

Total stock of the library collection on 30-06-2015, were 40,581 books including donated books. The following category of materials is available in the library.

 b) Classification:

Books are classified according to the Dewey Decimal Classification system. The classification number found on the bottom left-hand corner of the book helps the student to identify the particular book on the shelves. During the year 243 books were classified.

Digital Library

The Digital Library was developed using the Dspace Digital Library system. Dspace is an open source digital repository software. The digital library consists of E-Books, Projects, Question Papers, Syllabus books etc. These individual communities of collections are searchable as well as browsable by Title, Author, and any Keyword.

Intranet Website

    The PBR VITS Central Library Intranet Website was designed using Drupal. The contents of the site are mainly based on the user needs and collection, and the services were prioritized based on their approach. Information services are regularly updated. During the year more then 30 inspiration videos added. Previous GATE solved papers, IES Solved papers provided.

     It also provides NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) video lecturers. During the year phase –II NPTEL videos were updated.

Library Blog

            Library blog is created based on user needs. It has provides a single window to all the e-resources and services of the Library. Visit the library blog at This academic year total 2,649 users were visited the blog.


The library is member of DELNET since 2005. The membership renewed this academic year also at the cost of Rs. 11,500/-.

User Education

     User’s education is is an important regular activity of the library- to inform, to alert and to educate users about various resources and services of the library. In addition to that orientation programmes were organized for I st year students.


      Guiding the readers in using the catalogues and reference books, in tracing the books, solving problems of the readers in case of difficulty etc. Every day around 100-150 queries satisfied. Question papers, GATE material and syllabus books are provided on demand.

Loss of books:

During the academic year 18 books were lost from the total collection.
